Priority One Decarbonisation Programme
Global warming, climate change and its impacts continue to be a big consideration for business, and with the recent launch of New Zealand’s Emissions Carbon Reduction goal of net zero by 2050, it is essential that the Western Bay of Plenty region considers a decarbonising plan to remain competitive and strong.
New Zealand is one of the first countries to have the goal of net zero emissions by 2050 enshrined in law.
The Climate Change Response (Zero Carbon) Amendment Act 2019 aims to provide a framework to implement climate change policies within government and to support businesses. This is in line with an international effort under the Paris Agreement to limit the global average temperature increase to 1.5° Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Scientists have advised that in order for society to avoid the costlier impacts of climate change, this goal must be achieved.
Our country’s key domestic targets include the following:
- 30% reduction in freight emissions by 2035
- 20% reduction in light fleet emissions by 2035
- 50% of energy to be sourced from renewable sources by 2035
- 30% of the light fleet to be zero emission vehicles by 2035
Priority One is leading a Decarbonisation Programme to support Western Bay of Plenty businesses to accelerate their emission reduction plans.
The programme will provide you with the key information and expert advice to apply a successful decarbonisation plan within your business. It will include tools to review your own footprint, identify reduction opportunities within your business, develop your own strategy and set your reduction targets.
