A Spatial Planning Forum – Whakamaheretia ō tatou wāhi
New Zealand is amid major changes across different sectors including education, the health system, freshwater, and infrastructure. The new RMA system in New Zealand was a major reform of the Labour-led government that aimed to address the shortcomings of the previous system, such as complexity, inconsistency, inefficiency, and lack of environmental outcomes.
Across the political spectrum there has been a consensus that the current RMA system is no longer fit for purpose, but what should be its replacement?
We will hear from two different speakers views on our dynamic communities, our role as citizens and leaders in a democracy, the economic situation and what kind of decision-making is needed in the future.
Presenters:
Professor Emeritus Paul Spoonley – social scientist, co-director for Centre of Research Excellence for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism, board member Auckland Museum, Chair of the Marsden Fund.
Steven Joyce, Strategic and policy advisor, former senior economic Minister in government.
Doors open at 5pm with speeches starting at 5.30pm.
