Techweek 2022 to celebrate Tauranga’s unique innovation sector

Techweek, New Zealand’s Festival of Tech and Innovation, is being celebrated across Tauranga from May 16-22.

With over 25 diverse events, the week-long festival is being facilitated in the region by Priority One, the Western Bay of Plenty Economic Development Agency.

Priority One CEO, Nigel Tutt says the week is a chance to showcase the region’s unique innovations and growth in this space.  

“Tauranga continues to develop as a leading destination across the technology and innovation sector, driving value and sustainable growth in our local economy” says Tutt.

Throughout the week, attendees can enjoy a mix of exciting live, virtual and workshop events across a variety of topic areas including 3D printing, digital technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

“Techweek provides a fantastic opportunity for attendees to learn and experience first-hand the regions’ strengths within innovation and technology, whilst upskilling and making key connections,” says Priority One and University of Waikato Innovation Manager, Shane Stuart. 

Headline events throughout the week include the Tauranga Tech Futures event on May 16, which will celebrate the opening of the University of Waikato Blue/Green Tech Lab, a space for university staff and students to grow capability in Tauranga across cutting edge technology such as automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and biotechnology.

“The University of Waikato Blue/Green Tech Lab is another step on our collaborative journey as a region toward establishing Tauranga as a global destination for innovation.” says Stuart.
