Latest News

As we close out the year, we’re proud to reflect on the journey of the 2024 Instep Young Leaders’ Forum, which culminated in a final event hosted at Priority One. This year has focused on equipping our young leaders with the skills, confidence, and networks essential for shaping the future workforce of our region. From immersive experiences like the noho to insightful business breakfasts with leading organisations, our young leaders have gained perspectives that will guide their future careers.

Throughout the year, our young leaders engaged with organisations including the NZ Defence Force, Aurecon, the combined regional councils, Toi Ohomai, University of Waikato, and Southern Cross Horticulture. Each partner offered a unique glimpse into potential career pathways, encouraging students to consider futures within industries that play a critical role in our region.

Our finale celebration featured insights from guest speakers Brad Olsen, Chief Executive and Principal Economist for Infometrics, and The Flatpack Company founders Cameron Leigh and Angus Syme. They shared personal experiences and industry insights, shedding light on challenges and the resilience needed in the workforce. These talks left a lasting impact, sparking fresh perspectives and motivation for our young leaders.

The Instep Young Leaders’ Forum is more than just a programme—it’s a launchpad for young talent. Our events fostered both leadership qualities and practical skills, helping students feel prepared to step confidently into the workforce. Through our business breakfasts, students built connections with some of the region’s top business leaders, while workshops developed key competencies in leadership, career readiness, and soft skills that offer a clear advantage as they set out on their own career journeys.

Beyond skill building, our programme connects young leaders with the local business community. These networks, formed through workshops, mentoring, and networking events, offer long-term support and guidance that will continue to influence and encourage these students long after the programme wraps up.

This year’s closing event was a celebration of each young leader’s growth. We’ve seen them challenge themselves, strengthen their skills, and build a foundation for success in a dynamic and evolving workforce. As we reflect on this year, we’re reminded of the potential these young leaders bring to our region—and the positive impact they’re set to make in the years ahead.
