BCD Group’s internship programme: A cornerstone of its recruitment strategy

BCD Group’s internship programme is a cornerstone of its annual strategic recruitment plan. Despite the challenges faced by the industry this year, BCD’s commitment to its intern programme has stayed strong. The company recognises the programme’s long-term value, not only for its own growth, but also for developing the future workforce of engineers, planners and surveyors.

“By creating opportunities for university students, we are paying it forward to our industry,” says Dianne Arnold, BCD’s Group People & Culture Manager. “Gaining early professional experience within a consultancy helps provide much needed context for what university students are learning, and in many cases helps them identify their preferred engineering disciplines.”

BCD has 18 interns for summer 24/25, spanning surveying, planning, geotechnical, civil, structural, draughting and fire, across the five North Island offices. “Over the last 15 years, the programme has resulted in some great talent joining our team, with four of the six individuals in Office Leadership positions initially starting as an intern,” Dianne explains.

The team are briefed and ready to go in November, with opportunities for interns to get involved in projects that will challenge and develop them over the 12-week programme.
